It is a common misconception that sports injury can only happen to sports persons.
I have often heard this in the clinics “doctor I have never played tennis!! Then how come I am having tennis elbow??!!” Amusing as it may sound but the reality is, sports injury often results from repetitive stress or heavier than usual stress focussed on any particular body part.
Lifestyle related injury may also result from:
- adoption of incorrect postures for sitting and sleeping
- All men & women after crossing 60 years mark should stay under periodic evaluation for sign of weakness in their bones & joints(osteoporosis & osteoarthritis), especially the ones with additional conditions like DM, thyroid disorder & obesity
- Use of in incorrect Foot wear
Some common forms of sports and lifestyle injury
Common culprits in most of these condition are:
- Obesity
- Adoption of incorrect posture while walking/sleeping
- Use of incorrect foot wear
- Repetitive work without adequate intermittent rest
What can you do?
As you can see many of these problem are preventable to a great extent, if however you do develop one of these problem early visit to an orthopaedician will ensure better & early recovery
About knee
The ligament of the knee act as ropes that tie the bones together and ensure smooth walking & movement
The old school thought on knee injury was to wait it out & exercise which is still practiced in some places with less access to technology. But with the advent of modern imaging techniques like MRI & treatment methods like arthroscopic repair, waiting is no longer an option.
→ If you have a knee injury you must visit an orthopaedician where you will be evaluated for an accurate diagnosis. You may also be put through tests like x-ray or MRI which are absolutely pain free and harmless.
→ Depending on your diagnosis your orthopaedician will divide your injury into severity grades and advice you on a proper method of treatment and rehabilitation
→ Remember, your joint won’t pardon you in later life for negligence you are doing now. The punishment will be earlier onset of arthritis/arthrosis.
